"Weird Al" Yankovic revealed that he turned down a "nice pile of money" to star in a commercial for an AI software.
"I'm not going to mention any names, but they told me it was for a business," the parody musician told Syracuse.com on Monday (June 29). "It was business software that would increase productivity... I said, 'Oh well, yeah, sure, I could do that.' And then a week before we're supposed to shoot it, I find out, oh, this is, it's AI. And then I thought, 'Oh no, I can't be the poster boy for AI, forget it.' So I felt bad about kind of pulling out at the last minute. But yeah, I'm not down with that."
He also remarked that he is "not a fan of AI" being utilized to create parody songs.
"Weird Al" is far from the only artist to speak out against artificial intelligence. Jack Antonoff penned a scathing journal entry on his Instagram account on May 13, in which he blasted people who utilize AI to make music.
"What we do has become an ancient ritual," the Bleachers frontman wrote at the time. "So, to everyone who is gassed up about the new ways you can fake making art, by all means drive right off that cliff. We're genuinely happy to see you go."
Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan also spoke out against it, calling the decision a "deal with the devil."
