Damon Albarn was very busy in 2023 when Gorillaz and Blur both put out new albums, but what's he been doing since then?
The frontman spoke to The Sun about Blur's return, admitting “there was so much going on” following the reunion. “I was doing an opera in Paris and starting on the new Gorillaz record,” he pointed out. “It’s been crazy, it really has. But the world’s gone crazy so it doesn’t seem in any way strange.”
“I’ve been incredibly busy making music — it’s what I love to do,” he continued. “I suppose I’m going to have to share some of it soon. Inevitably there will always be a dustbin bag full of stuff that needs dropping off at the recycling!”
In a separate interview with The Times, Albarn revealed that the "new Gorillaz record is in four languages!" He also confessed that it won't come out until next year after saying it was set for a 2025 release earlier this year.
Gorillaz last album was 2023's Cracker Island. Blur also released their comeback album The Ballad of Darren that year, which was their first since 2015. At the end of that year, Albarn said Blur was on hiatus again, admitting it was "too much for" him.
