115 years old is one heck of a run! The Daily Mirror shared the story of Helena Pereira dos Santos from Rio das Pedras, Brazil, who was born in 1904. She has lived through so much and she said that one of the secrets to her longevity is beans!
Helena has a diet rich in beans and that has helped her to keep going strong. They are good for your heart, according to either doctors or a rhyme we all said as kids (and adults). It was one of the two. Helena also said that getting proper sleep, exercising and having joy in her life also helped her make it to 115.
I'd love to know, having lived for 115 years and eating a lot of beans, how many farts is that for Helena in her life? The average human passes gas anywhere between 13 to 21 times a day. Let's say it's 15 for her. 15 times per day x 365 days per year x 115 years = 629625 farts over the course of her life! That's an average. I didn't even account for heavy bean days or leap years. 629625 farts!
I hope that teachers see this and apply it to their cirriculum. It's very important math!
